Dear Sir,

We would like to thank the authors(1) for their letter on our article.(2) We note the point that odontogenic pain may in fact be referred and appear non-odontogenic in origin. Furthermore, the management of dental pain in the community can be varied and may not always be adequately evidence-based. Our intention in the manuscript was to encourage antimicrobial stewardship and the appropriate use of analgesics for oral pain. Thank you for your concurrence, and for the reminder that much more may be done in terms of public education in this area.

Yours sincerely,
